Percy Jackson: son of Poseidon
(god of the sea), monster killer, and a famous hero who is also a demigod; half
god, half mortal. Travel into Percy Jackson's world, as he goes to Camp
Half-Blood where his best friend Grover is a satyr, his Latin teacher is a
centaur, the counsellor of camp is the god of wine and the Greek gods are
alive, and kicking. Join Percy and his friends Annabeth and Grover on their
quest to retrieve the Master Bolt, the weapon of Zeus that Percy "supposedly”
stole, along with saving Percy's mother.
To achieve this and stop Zeus'
plan for war, they must battle Medusa, the Echidna and the Chimera and face the
horrors of the Underworld, where Percy learns that the true lightning thief was
actually a friend at Camp Half-Blood this whole time.
I like how the book focuses on
Greek Mythology and so you learn all about Ancient Greece without falling
asleep. Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is a great book with monsters,
cool weapons, and even evil flying shoes! I also enjoyed how the story is about
a quest, making it an adventurous book, but still squeezing some humour inside
as well. My favourite characters are Percy Jackson, Chiron the centaur (his
former Latin teacher) and Poseidon, Percy's dad. I recommend this book to any
boy (or girl) aged 8 upwards.
